acquired the four-acre, oceanfront compound over the course of three decades, ultimately compiling five lots with upwards of 21,000 square feet of living space, including a 12,000-square-foot main garden house, a 6,000-square-foot oceanfront home designed by architect Addison Mizner, and three other staff and guest homes. Kluge’s donation of the property was earmarked for student scholarships and was, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education, the largest ever of its kind in the U.S.
